Every component, from the engine to the fairing design, has been examined, re-worked and improved to give you a piece of machinery like nothing else before it. Engine displacement has been boosted to 999cc, giving you more torque, more acceleration and better maximum power.
The new GSX-R1000 has shed 2kg, making it the lightest superbike and giving it the best power-to-weight ratio in its class. A compact double-barrel throttle body design with larger 52mm bores helps deliver the blistering powerplants extra 14ps.
Still want more? How about twin injectors per throttle body for improved throttle response and acceleration and a back-torque limiting clutch for smoother downshifts. More? Titanium intake and exhaust valves reduce weight, enabling the engine to increase its redline another 1000rpm - music to your ears.
The new shorter Suzuki Advanced Exhaust System is shaped to minimise aerodynamic drag and to maximise corner bank angle. Lighter weight forged pistons feature chrome-nitride coated upper compression and oil control rings, reduce friction and improve sealing.
Sticky radial tyres are mounted on new cast aluminium wheels with redesigned, thinner spokes and optimised wall thickness to reduce unsprung weight. Radial-mounted four-piston front brake callipers with larger 310mm rotors and a new radial-mount master cylinder improve lever feel and feedback.

- 999cc, inline-4-cylinder, DOHC, 16-valve engine with compact, lightweight and advanced engineering design to increase power, torque and acceleration across the entire rpm range.
- Oil control rings are electro-plated with chrome-nitride coating. Its coating is hard and smooth to reduce friction and improve sealing in the cylinder bores, which are electro-plated with race-proven Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material (SCEM).
- Large exhaust and intake ports with the outer two intake ports closer to the cylinder head’s centreline allow use of more compact throttle bodies.
- Compact combustion chamber and light, flat face titanium valves to have a high compression ratio of 12.5:1.
- Trapezoidal shape radiator has a high cooling capacity without increasing frontal area.
- Two double-barrel throttle bodies with Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve (SDTV) are compact despite the engine bore sizes, allowing the use of a narrow air box and fuel tank to give the rider more knee and elbow room and in turn, allowing the use of narrower bodywork.
- Twin injector system, with the primary fuel injector that operates under all conditions and the secondary fuel injector that operates under high-rpm, heavy-load conditions, greatly increases engine output on the racetrack.
- Suzuki Pulsed-secondary AIR-injection (PAIR) system enhances emission control, chemically reducing the amount of unburned hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide in the exhaust gas.
- Internal transmission ratios with closer spacing for efficient racetrack acceleration, and a clutch and shift forks designed for making racetrack starts and shifts feel more positive.
- Ramped engagement cams built into the clutch hub create a back-torque limiter that contributes to smooth downshifts especially on the racetrack.
- Compact and light chassis yield the lowest 166kg of dry weight in the class and the best power-to-weight ratio in the class. Overall chassis design concentrates mass toward the centre of the bike for maximum balance.
- Frame is designed to give enough feedback and feel during hard cornering on the racetrack. Narrowly shaped frame design allows the rider to tuck in behind the fairing to reduce drag.
- Shorter Suzuki Advanced Exhaust System (SAES) for concentrating mass toward the centre of the bike with minimised aerodynamic drag and maximising the cornering bank angle.
- Fairing design minimises projected frontal area and accordingly reduces aerodynamic drag.
- Kayaba inverted, cartridge front forks have Diamond Like Carbon (DLC)-plated 43mm inner tubes. Kayaba piggyback reservoir rear shock absorber provides reliable rear suspension response and feedback on the racetrack. Both front and rear suspensions are fully adjustable for spring preload, compression damping and rebound damping.
- Cast-aluminium-alloy wheels have thin spokes with optimised wall thickness for less unsprung weight.
- Large 310mm fully-floating front brake discs, controlled by a radial-piston master cylinder and opposed-four-piston radial-mount callipers, and 220mm rear disc brake both give better translation of brake-lever travel into stopping power.
- Bright multi-reflector headlights and LED taillight/brake light.
- Easy-to-read LCD instrument cluster including speedometer, odometer, dual tripmeters, clock, coolant temperature and exclusive gear position indicator.
